The group of Modern Mathematical Physics: Fields and Particles is the recipient of a grant PRIN 2022 titled ONES – OpeN and Effective quantum Systems. The project involves two units, one in Politecnico, led by Marco Falconi (who is also the project’s Principal Investigator), and one in Gran Sasso Science Institute, led by Serena Cenatiempo. The other members of Politecnico’s unit will be Francesco Belgiorno, Michele Correggi, and Silvia Lorenzani. Young researchers, at the early postdoctoral level, will be hired by both units to work on the project. The grant of about 220.000€ is expected to start at the beginning of 2025, and will have a duration of two years.
This project is devoted to the study of the mathematical aspects of effective models in quantum physics, emerging from microscopic interactions. The unit in Politecnico will focus on aspects of decoherence and non-Markovianity for open quantum systems coupled with a “large” environment, modeled by a semiclassical field, and on the properties of many-body interacting bosonic systems, in particular concerning Bose-Einstein condensation and superfluidity.
This project is also a perfect opportunity to strengthen the bonds between the mathematical quantum groups in Politecnico and GSSI, providing a common platform for fruitful collaborations and strategic partnerships.
