RIMS research project “The Mathematical Roads to Quantum Field Theory” awarded to Marco Falconi

Marco Falconi has been granted funding for a RIMS research project titled The Mathematical Roads to Quantum Field Theory, to be held in Kyoto in the spring/summer of 2026. The Research Institute for Mathematical Sciences finances yearly one/two research projects in all areas of mathematics. These projects aim at attracting leading researchers from abroad to conduct research activities and foster new collaborations at RIMS, as well as to contribute to the development of young researchers, both local and international. The grant amounts to 5M¥.
The organizing committee of this upcoming research project consists of M. Falconi (Politecnico, proponent), C. Brennecke (HCM Bonn), S. Cenatiempo (Gran Sasso Science Institute), F. Hiroshima (Kyushu), H. Ochiai (Kyushu, RIMS board member). A preliminary list of participants includes Z. Ammari (Rennes), S. Chatterjee (Stanford), M. Disertori (HCM Bonn), P. Duch (EPFL Lausanne), C. Gérard (Paris-Saclay), A. Giuliani (Roma Tre), M. Gubinelli (Oxford), O. Matte (Aalborg), T. Miyao (Hokkaido), J. Møller (Aarhus), Y. Ogata (RIMS), I. Sasaki (Shinshu), M. Sellke (Harvard), V. Sohinger (Warwick), M. Wrochna (Utrecht). Financial support will be available for PhD students and young researchers.
This research project aims at bringing together leading mathematicians working in the mathematical aspects of quantum field theory, stimulating the interaction of the different approaches to the topic, that range from stochastic PDEs and probability to functional and semiclassical analysis, as well as operator theory. The hope is to foster collaboration among the different groups, and to develop new research directions, possibly leading to important breakthroughs in this topic, that has positioned itself at the heart of mathematics in recent years.
During the research period, two conferences and a summer school will be organized at RIMS, with a precise schedule to be finalized in the upcoming months.
