PhD Course: "Introduction to Entropy" - V. Jaksic
The first course of this year's PhD program kicks off on November 18, and it will take place until December 12 - on Tue 16-18, Wed 16-18, Fri 10-12 - in the Seminar Room on the third floor of the Mathematics Department (Bd. 14).

The course revolves around the definition of entropies and relative entropies in (classical) information theory, from Boltzmann-Gibbs-Shannon to Rényi. These concepts will be discussed both axiomatically, and as they stem from probability theory. The final part of the course is devoted to more advanced topics and recent developments in non-equilibrium statistical mechanics.

A detailed description of the course can be found here. This course is part of the formative offer of the PhD program M3E of the Mathematics Department of Politecnico di Milano.
