Nonlinear Physics in Cardiac Dynamics

Simonetta Filippi, Campus Bio-Medico di Roma
Aula Seminari F. Saleri VI Piano MOX- Dipartimento di Matematica, Politecnico di Milano
Abstract

The quantitative understanding of cardiac dynamics represents an important topic of research both from the experimental and theoretical points of view. The presence of spiral waves of electrical activity during real pathological situations requires the use of mathematical models in order to reproduce and possibly control such a type of life threatening arrhythmias.
In this talk we present an electromechanical model of a patch of myocardium tissue modelled as an electrophysiological reaction-diffusion systems on a moving domain governed by finite
elasticity theory, describing several different mechano-electric effects regarding spiral waves motion and discussing possible extensions of the model.
