Abstract
The functional relationships existing between the structure and the function of biological materials (in healthy and/or in pathogenic conditions) are of crucial importance for many
biomedical applications. This talk is focused on the multi-scale mathematical modeling of living matter, from cells to tissues, presenting the theoretical backgrounds and their applications
in few system models. In particular, I will show how such a mathematical approach can give insights into the formation of micro-structural patterns during skin tumor growth.
The results have important implications for the improvement of the diagnostic methods for melanoma, possibly driving progress towards a personalized screening.
