Structure and randomness in II_1 factors
Sorin Popa is a Romanian mathematician working in functional analysis, member of the National Academy of Science U.S and holds the Takesaki Endowed Chair at University of California Los Angeles. Popa is a leading researcher, well known for his work in von Neumann algebras and ergodic theory. Recognitions of his numerous fundamental contributions include being a plenary speaker at International Congress of Mathematics Madrid 2006 as well as receiving the Simionov Stoilov Prize of the Romanian Academy of Science, the College de France Medal 2004, the Ostrowski Prize 2009, the Chair Blaise Pascal 2009 and the E.H. Moore Research Prize 2010
