Title of the talk: Simplicity and Complexity

Abstract: Is the world simple or complicated? We look at the different approaches to answering this question that are made possible by the application of mathematics to the physical world. This will lead us to compare the developments that have occurred in fundamental particle physics in the quest for a 'Theory of Everything' and the study of organised and disorganised complexity that has been facilitated by the IT revolution.
