MATEC4Girls – 3rd Edition: a day to discover applied mathematics

On May 12, the FDS Laboratory of the Department of Mathematics at Politecnico di Milano hosted the third edition of MATEC4Girls, an initiative dedicated to female high school students and aimed at encouraging younger generations to explore STEM disciplines through hands-on activities and direct interaction with the world of research.

Organized on the occasion of the International Day of Women in Mathematics, the event brought together students from several secondary schools, offering them the opportunity to discover the role of applied mathematics in contemporary scientific and technological contexts.

Throughout the day, participants took part in interactive activities and workshops led by professors, researchers, and PhD students from the Department, experiencing first-hand how mathematical and computational tools can be used to interpret complex phenomena, analyze data, and develop models.

Alongside the laboratory sessions, the event also included moments of discussion focused on academic and professional opportunities in STEM fields, with particular attention to the role of women in science and research.

MATEC4Girls once again proved to be an important opportunity for outreach and orientation, designed to inspire curiosity, participation, and awareness among future university students.

We warmly thank all the students who participated with enthusiasm, as well as the faculty members and researchers who contributed to the initiative.

We look forward to the next edition!
